The Welsh Government Sgiliau Bwyd a Diod Cymru / Food & Drink Skills Wales programme is helping food and drink businesses invest in their people and build a resilient, future-ready industry, is starting 2026 with renewed momentum and a strong focus on workforce development. Three people at Radnor hills holding a new radnor product Since its launch last year, the programme’s dedicated jobs portal, Food and Drink Jobs Wales, has listed 3,322 vacancies, accessed by more than 1,271 employers, with 629 active roles currently available. As job-seekers consider their career paths, the platform is proving a vital gateway to opportunities across Wales’ growing food and drink sector.

South Caernarfon Creameries started in 1938 when a group of local farmers came together to add value to their milk. Following the completion of Project Dragon, a £25 million investment programme the creamery has increased its capacity to 23,000 tons of cheese a year, the company receives only Welsh milk from its members across north and mid Wales and processes it at Rhydygwystl, on the Llyn Peninsula.

Case Study: In the Welsh Wind Distillery

In the Welsh Wind Distillery is a small but ambitious craft distillery on the west Wales coast which opened its doors in January 2018. Co-founders and directors Ellen Wakelam and Alex Jungmayr ran the business together initially, and then began to take on more staff and work with other local freelancers to develop their offering. The business now crafts bespoke custom branded spirits for other businesses, and launched its own, now award-winning, Signature style gin in 2020. Alongside gin, the distillery is also pioneering a ‘grain to glass’ Welsh whisky.
